More than $8,000 was re-granted recently by the Tehama County Arts Council (TCAC) to fund a variety of arts projects throughout the county. Eighteen projects received grants, including 10 from Tehama County schools to provide arts education and special programs. The TCAC considered applications from 23 individuals and organizations.
Funds came from part of a larger grant awarded last fall to the TCAC from the California Arts Council (CAC) “Arts Lover” California license plate program. Fees fund CAC programs for children and arts organizations throughout the state.
Grant recipients include: Red Bluff Art Association, for materials to paint a mural at the Tehama County Fair Grounds; Lincoln Street Independent School, for art supplies for Meet the Masters curriculum; Vista Middle School, for lighting system components for theatrical performances; Tehama County Photo Club, for exhibit panels; Red Bluff Elementary Music Department, for a flute; Tehama County Photo Club, for advertising and website to host the second annual Images from A Glass Eye International Photography Show, 2011; Red Bluff Elementary School District Theater Department, for the royalty, license, and materials for Annie, Jr.; Diane Penner, art instructor, for student scholarships; Diane Penner, Reeds Creek School, for student art supplies; Wes Hendricks, Red Bluff Union High School, to fund a student field trip to San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Legion of Honor Art Museum.
Also receiving funds are: Nancy Kunay, Special Education Instructor Red Bluff Union High School, for a die cut machine, decorative punches, stamps and paper to implement a school-based business designing stationary products; Lassen View Elementary School, for student art supplies to create artwork to be sold in a booth at the Annual Dairyville Orchard Festival held on the Lassen View campus; Los Molinos High School Floral Design Class, for floral design materials to be used to instruct local middle school students on the art of floral design.
Other recipients include: Corning Community Foundation, for tables and/or seating for the remodeling of the Rodgers Theatre; Corning High School Art Department, materials to create 3-dimensional forms using the majolica decorative technique; Red Bluff Masterworks Chorale, for advertising of the Memorial Day Celebration Concert; Red Bluff Art Association, for two banners to advertise at community-wide events; and the State Theatre for the Arts, a non-profit corporation, for the purpose of assisting in the purchase of the State Theater building.
Recipients will report back to the TCAC about their projects. They also are required to publish an article in a local newspaper detailing the TCAC funded project and provide information about the “Art Lover” license plates in support of the CAC funding. The specialty plates feature the iconic California image of sunset and palm trees designed by pop artist Wayne Thiebaud; sales and renewals fund more than 60 percent of the CAC’s budget.
